ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime now with Android 4.0 ICS

ASUS CEO Jerry Shen, together with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang, last night announced the release of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware update for the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime, the world’s first quad-core, Tegra 3-powered tablet. The announcement, made during the NVIDIA press conference at CES, makes Transformer Prime the world’s first tablet to feature this next generation Android operating system.

This over-the-air firmware update started at 7pm PST on January 9, with users in the US and Taiwan receiving the first wave of updates. Users in other countries will receive the update soon.

Some of the interesting features users can expect from the Android 4.0 ICS OS include the ability to quickly switch between mobile and desktop versions of websites as well as save webpages so that they could be read offline. Additional enhancements include the addition of special camera effects, with users now being able to take panoramic pictures and indulge in a little photo editing as well with their Transformer Prime.

ASUS CEO Jerry Shen also took the opportunity to unveil ASUS’ first 7” quad-core tablet — the ASUS MeMO 370T. It will feature the NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 quad-core CPU to deliver the ultimate tablet computing performance in an even smaller form factor. It also features an 8 megapixel camera, an IPS panel and Android™ 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
